Fannie Bay Goal

Darwin's original penal institution in Fannie Bay it is now a museum. Since 1883 the old gaol with its crude facilities and a chilling old gallows section is a grim reminder of what life in the gaol was like. Come and look inside a cell and see the conditions the prisoners of yesterday had to endure. Once Darwin's main lock-up from 1883 to 1979, the gaol is situated opposite the Fannie bay shops. Catch the number 4 bus and get off at the Fannie Bay shops. Free Entry.

East Point Reserve

East Point Reserve is a must place to visit in the late afternoon when the wallabies come out to feed. A cool breeze usually springs up as you watch the magnificent sunset across the bay. Grab some dinner and a few beers and watch this spectacular event. There is also the salt-water, jellyfish-free Lake Alexander where swimming is possible all year round. Evidence of East Point's role in the defence of Darwin are the WWII gun emplacements and harbour defences located on the Point overlooking the Arafura Sea. Entry to this area is free.
