Renting a room in Darwin

On a working holiday and found work in Darwin. Wish to rent a room and make thing a little more homely than the share accommodation at the backpacker. Well finding a room to rent in a house or a unit is not really that hard.

The best place to look is under the share accommodation in the local newspaper the NT News. There are hundreds of share accommodation vacancies in every Saturday’s paper.

Another good way to find a room is to keep a look out on the notice boards at internet cafes and at the hostel. The global gossip internet café always has accommodation available on its notice board. It is situated on the Cnr Mitchell & Knuckey Street. Another avenue to finding a room is by asking your new work mates if they know of anywhere. Often they will know someone looking for a boarder but don’t wish to advertise in the paper.

When renting a room in any part of Australia you will be required to pay 4 weeks bond. This is a standard practice in Australia even for local people. It is like a security if something goes wrong. You will also be required to pay 2 weeks in advance. The average price of renting a room in Australia is from $100 to $180. A nice room in a standard unit would normally cost about $100 - $140 a week plus expenses. Expenses are electricity, phone etc.
